Exhibitions

every year at shaff we like to showcase the work of a small number of adventure photographers and / or artists.

Dan Lane is one of a new wave of up and coming young adventure photographers. At just 18 he manages to spend most of the week in college doing A-levels and still be a semi-professional photographer in his spare time. Although being very busy, he is ideally based in Glossop on the edge of the Peak District for summer evenings on the gritstone edges and weekend trips to the bigger mountains. A climber from the age of five, Dan is very much at home in the hills in all seasons and weather conditions. His ambition as a photographer is to take photographs which inspire people to go to places they wouldn’t normally go to take in the immense vistas and spend time away from the cites to enjoy the natural beauty that Britain has to offer. He’s certainly made the most of his four years in photography with regular trips to Snowdonia, Yorkshire, Lake District, Pembroke, Scotland and Lundy amongst many other UK locations. On top of that he’s photographed all over Europe, including Spain, France and Italy with a trip to the Norwegian Islands of Lofoten planned for this summer. He has had articles and stand alone photographs published in national climbing magazines as well as many photos in guidebooks to various areas of England and Wales. We are lucky enough to have him taking photos of the event this weekend on behalf of Heason Events.

Sarah Clough first really discovered an interest in photography when she used to climb, She'd take a digital compact to the crag with her every time she went, and started to learn the makings of a good shot. She upgraded to an SLR and started to take her photography seriously, and has a website at http://www.originaltake.com showcasing her best results. Her main insipration is finding the photos that you don't see every day, something a little different, whether it's insect macro photography or secret landscapes or star trails or underground shots. She no longer climbs, but she has a big passion for hill walking, and can occasionally be found down a cave too. For this exhibit she has chosen a small selection of photos relevant to adventure - 4 landsapes, 4 climbing shots, one grasshopper found at Bosigran in Cornwall, and one from a spot of urban exploration. Here are the photos that Sarah will be exhibiting at the weekend.
